| This section presents the conditions for foreigners to enter and stay in the Principality.
Pursuant to the legal provisions in force concerning the staying and movement of foreigners in the Principality, the following should be noted :
- To enter the Principality and (or) to stay there for a period of less than three months, any foreign national must hold an identity document (and a visa if applicable) which is required to enter French territory.
Therefore, any citizen from the European Economic Area (including Switzerland and the Principality of Andorra) must have a national identity card or a passport.
Any citizen from a country outside the European Economic Area must hold a passport and, depending on their nationality, a Schengen Visa (for tourism) issued by a country belonging to the Schengen Area.
- To stay in (or move to) the Principality for a period of over three months, citizens from the European Economic Area (including Swiss and Andorran nationals) must apply in person to the Public Safety Department (Resident Department, 3 rue Louis Notari) together with a valid identity card or passport.
Citizens from a country outside the European Economic Area need to ask the French authorities (Embassy or Consulate) from their last place of residence, to issue a settlement visa for the Principality.
The Driving and Vehicle Licensing Department would like to remind foreign residents having taken up residence in the Principality that they are required to exchange their national driving licence for a Monegasque driving licence within one year of their arrival.
