15th coordination meeting between the Government of Monaco and Monaco’s association network

Monday, 15th March 2010 -

The annual meeting between the Government of Monaco, Monegasque NGOs and service clubs, active in the field of international solidarity, was held on Saturday 13th March 2010. On the programme: the Government’s cooperation policy, partnerships with NGOs, new associations, working methods and common synergy.

Every year, the Monegasque Cooperation organises a meeting bringing together all Monegasque associations working in the humanitarian and development sector for discussions and exchange.

On Saturday 13th March, thirty or so NGOs and service clubs met at the Novotel Monaco together with the team from the Office of International Cooperation (DCI).

Frédéric Platini, Director of the DCI, presented the development cooperation policy specifying that from the 10M€ of Official Development Assistance for 2010, 9% is allocated to Monegasque NGOs.

He pointed out the partnerships already existing between the DCI and NGOs, as well as the dynamic nature of Monegasque NGOs, which are complementary to the Government’s actions, insofar as they operate in geographical areas and on issues not dealt with by the Monegasque Cooperation.

Following this, the floor was handed over to 5 new entities: Armenia’s Children’s Fund, Namaste, Walking for Kids, Lions Club Monaco and Soroptimist International of Monaco.

An update was also given on two projects bringing together Monaco’s association network and the Government: Monaco Collectif Humanitaire and Monaco Collectif Haïti.

Monaco Collectif Humanitaire, set up in 2008 on the occasion of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s 50th birthday, has already enabled over 80 children whose pathologies could not be operated on in their countries of origin, to receive surgery in the Principality. With over one million euros raised, in the long term a hundred or so children will be able to receive treatment.

For Haiti, close to 700,000 € has been raised and new fundraising activities are under way. The Government of Monaco has already contacted the Haitian authorities and international organisations to identify reconstruction projects.

As far as working methods are concerned, the DCI presented the approval procedure required for any association wishing to obtain co-funding from the Government of Monaco, as well as the 2010 training programme it offers to all employees and voluntary workers of the associations and service clubs.

The meeting concluded with a discussion between the various entities present and the hope for new common synergy.

The following attended the meeting:
Act for Nature, AMADE Monaco, AMADE Mondiale, Amitié sans Frontières Internationale, Associatif Monégasque, Association Monégasque d’Entraide in the Côte d’Ivoire, Association de Cardiologie Monaco-Maroc, Association Nationale de l’Ordre Souverain Militaire de Malte, Caritas, Children & Future, Monegasque Red Cross , ECPACT International, Fight Aids Monaco, Fondation Cuomo, Groupe d’Amitié Maroc-Monaco, les Amis du Liban Monaco, Mission Enfance, Monaco Aide et Présence, Peace and Sport, Share, Soutien Entraide Bénévolat, WFE- Des Ailes pour la Terre, Namaste, Walking for Kids, Monaco Armenia Children’s Fund, Lions Club de Monaco, Soroptimist International of Monaco
