Meeting for Careers in Banking and Finance, introduction to a practical and theoretical training course.

28/04/2010 -
The 4th Meeting for Careers in Banking and Finance will take place at the Novotel Monte Carlo on Wednesday 5th May from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Organised by the Department of Labour in cooperation with banking establishments and asset management companies in the Principality, the meeting is geared towards students of all levels. It enables them to gain a better understanding of banking and finance careers and to learn about the “Diplôme Européen d’études supérieurs de Banque” (European Higher Diploma in Banking) - option “the Monegasque banking centre (DEES) for which they may make an application during the event.

The DEES is geared towards Bac +2 level students who would like to join a sandwich course (two days’ training and three days’ working in a bank).

Combining further studies with work experience, this type of course appears to be a particularly effective method for the integration of young people into the labour market.

80% of the students who took part in the two previous training sessions, are now working in banks or asset management companies in Monaco. 14 students signed up for the 2009/2010 session and will be sitting their examinations in June.

    Two testimonials :

Céline Bonin was hired by the HSBC as soon as she passed her exam. At 23, she is the bank’s youngest employee. The course was a very positive experience for her: “it was extremely rewarding – I was able to put into practice what I had learnt at school immediately and ask the tutors questions as far as my experience in the bank was concerned”. The banking establishments in Monaco that helped to set up the course also feel that the training is a bonus. For Ms Valérie Lombardi, Deputy Director, Head of Human Resources at the HSBC, “we usually take on very qualified young individuals who have attended higher education institutions but who are not necessarily familiar with the Monegasque banking environment. However, the graduates from this course are already operational and extremely motivated”.

Elodie Fimmano is preparing her diploma for June and splits her week between studies and work experience at the Crédit Foncier in Monaco. “the course has given me more self-assurance, being in contact with clients and giving them advice is an unforgettable experience, it is an advantage to be immersed into the working world”. According to Isabelle Caisson, commercial assistant at the CFM, Elodie’s presence is of real benefit to the bank: “when she’s not here, we notice her absence and clients ask for her – her help is really invaluable.

For the Employment Service, the instigators of the course, the figures speak for themselves: “ the course has met with great success, especially since the 20% who don’t find a job immediately do so generally speaking within 6 months, unless they opt for another career path through their own personal choice” says Ms Sophie Vincent, Head of the Employment Service.
