Friday 17th April 2009 -
One year after the project “Monaco Collectif Humanitaire” was launched, the first results are extremely positive. 50 children, whose pathologies could not be treated in their countries of origin, have already received surgery in the Principality. Thanks to the 1 200 000 euros raised, a hundred or so other young patients will soon be able to benefit from the same treatment.
On 16th March 2009, Monegasque NGOs and the Office of International Cooperation, grouped together under the name “Monaco Collectif Humanitaire”, their partners and the hospitals involved, presented H.S.H. Prince Albert II with the initial results of the project initiated on the occasion of his 50th birthday.
One year after the launch of the project, fifty or so children from the developing countries have been cared for in the Cardio-Thoracic Centre and Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco. The IM2S will also be welcoming new patients very shortly.
The extraordinary generosity of the public and H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince has resulted in 1 200 000 euros being raised. The funds which continue to increase thanks to various donations will enable another one hundred or so children benefit from the same treatment.
The initiative is backed by two French NGOs: Rencontres Africaines, which takes care of all the administrative formalities and manages the host families, and Aviation sans Frontières which takes care of the travel arrangements for the patients.
The quality of the work provided by Monaco Collectif Humanitaire and its partners, as well as the high-level of competence of the Monegasque hospitals have been acknowledged overseas.
The Chaîne de l’Espoir, an internationally renowned French association and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have consequently become partners of the project. New Monegasque NGOs have also joined forces with the group.
